The final Summit
The view of the final summit is breathtaking. Sometimes it is challenging and simultaneously rewarding. If you go at April- May window, you will be lucky to get snow. It is a fantastic experience to climb. For that, you have to be equipped with gaiter and microspikes. For the summit, it is wise to start at 2.00 am. Then you can reach the peak at 8.00 am. It is the perfect time to climb because the weather may become cloudy and you may lose the scenic treat. You have to be little careful about the boulder zone. It demands good physical fitness. The summit view is breathtaking. You have the 360-degree view of mountain range. It may be windy or cloudy sometimes. That entirely depends on the weather.
The journey itinerary
Day 1 – From Haridwar, you can book a car which can take 5000 to 6000 to Joshimath. If you are a group of 5 or 6 people, it will be convenient for you. Otherwise, you can make a shared car to Joshimath. Remember that it is almost 10 to 12-hour journey. So try to start at 6.00 am in the morning to reach before evening.
Day 2. – From Joshimath, you need to reach Dhak(6,956 ft). It is 30 minutes journey by car. From Dhak the hiking begins to the Gulling top (9600 ft)
Day 3 – From Gulling top, the hiking begins to Khullara Camp(11,100 ft). Khullara is one of most beautiful camp with the combination of the snowy mountain range, meadows, and forest.
Day 4 – From Khullara top the journey continues to Gailgad (12300 ft). In this trail, you have to pass on through famous Lord Curzon trail. Here you will be mesmerised with the Chaukhamba massifs in the far north, and it is followed with Mana, Kamet, Abl Gamin, Hathi Parvat, Nanda Ghunti and Trishul.
Day 5 – From Gailgad, you have to reach Pangarchulla top (14700 ft) and back to Gailgad camp.This is the final journey. To get clear weather, you have to start early in the morning. If you can start as early as 2.00 am, it is far better. This trail is covered with the soft snow. The more you late in the day, with the sunlight, the trail can become more slippery. You must have experience guide and proper gear like gaiter, microspikes and UV protection sunglass. The summit can take 5-6 hours in the snow condition and in the post monsoon season, it will take almost 4 hours.
In winter, the trail are carpeted with snow. Sometimes it will be risky because you cannot measure your footstep. In the late May onwards, the snow is melted. You have climb on the rocky moraine surface. It is comparatively easier than snowy trail.
Day 6 – From Gailgad (12,476 ft) you have come back to Auli (8,800 ft) and then drive to Joshimath. In this trail you will be mesmerised with the beauty of Mt. Dronagiri and Mt. Nandadevi. You have to pass on the famous Gorson bugial and magical oak forest. It is 6 hours trek + 45 minutes drive
Day 7 – From Joshimath to you have to drive down to Haridwar.

- As it is a moderate to difficult trek, you need to prepare yourself with proper exercise. As it is a summit trek, you need to maintain your cardio performance to complete the summit. You will gain 6000ft height in 3 days. So sometimes, you have to climb steeply.
Work out –
Before trek, you have to jog 10 km in 60 to 70 minutes. Initially, you can start with 5 km in 30 minutes and gradually, you have to increase the time of exercise. Along with that, you have to practice three sets of squat 15 times in each set. You have to maintain flexibility frequently. You can do stretching hamstrings, quadriceps, hip flexors, lower back muscles and shoulders to avoid any injury.
